Congratulations Owen

Owen came 2nd today at the BSC Lancashire Epee. This is a ranking competition for selection into the GB Cadet (U17) International Team. Owen is now second in the  National rankings after a great performance in the BSC Bromsgrove event on September 1st. This was a combined Junior (U20) and Cadet (U17) qualifier, he was 9th in that competition. He should be selected now for the team if he can prove he has a sufficient level of fitness. This will involve a trip to London to British Fencing HQ.

All very proud. He has only just turned 15!

East MIdlands Championships

The 2013 East Midlands Championships, to be held at The Samworth Church Academy, Sherwood Hall Road, Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, NG18 2DY on 9th November 2013.

The entry form can be downloaded in either Word and PDF formats from the bottom of this post.
Please note we have amended the age categories to: =<9, U11, U13, U15, U17, U19 (Boys & Girls competitions for all ages and all 3 weapons) to mimic the EYC competition. However, please also note that we are unable to accept multiple weapon entries for fencers due time limitations on the day.

East Midlands Fencing Website

The East Midlands Region Fencing website has been rebooted
You will notice that some pages are still under construction. Apologies for that, but we wanted to get the site up and running, even though there are still some rough edges. Check here for competitions, workshops, other events and news. It is also hopefully a useful place to signpost people to if they are interested in finding out a bit more about fencing or wanting to find a local club. We are hoping to develop the clubs page with more information about each one – weapons, meeting times and days, exact location and so on.
We hope that the site will make it easier for you to find out everything you need to know about fencing in the East Midlands. And please do feel free to contact me or anyone else on the committee with your constructive feedback.
We have also set up an East Midlands Fencing Facebook Page, for those of you who are regular Facebook users. You can find it here.
This is different from the website in that it is designed to be a community of news, photos and comment. Please feel free to post to the page and to upload pictures (make sur eyou have permission before doing so!). It is designed to be a place to share information and ideas. It’s a bit of an experiment to see what take-up there is: it will be what we all make it!
Please  go and check out the new sites and spread the word of fencing.

Competitions and Forms for the new season

The Ashton Open Competition is running this year and will be running under a new committee. Please find the link at the bottom.

CMW Epee 2013 is on Saturday 16th November 2013. Juniors will fence in the morning and Seniors will fence in the afternoon.

We will have 18 carpet pistes and Leon Paul will also have a stand this year. The Senior competition is an open. The form can be found at the bottom of the page.

The Leeds Open is just around the corner!
 
2012 was the 3rd year the tournament ran and we welcomed nearly 300 fencers across all 3 weapons, making it one of the largest fencing opens in the country.

The tournament venue is situated directly in the city centre, with fantastic transport links from Leeds rail and coach station. There are also plenty of inner city hotels nearby if you need to stay over for the weekend.

East Midlands Senior 6 Weapon Championships RESULTS!

Frisby Fencers ran the East Midlands Senior 6 Weapon Championships at the Samworth Academy in Mansfield on Sunday 19th May. This is an annual competition with entries from clubs all over the East Midlands (Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire, Derbyshire, Northamptonshire). There was a very high standard of competitors with over 70 entrants from 16 clubs across the competition.

Frisby had fencers in the Men’s and Women’s Epee Championships and the Women’s Sabre. The Men’s Epee Trophy was first handed out in 1971 to Malcolm Allton (a long standing member of Frisby Fencers, who is still competing and is also an International referee.) Owen Jordan won the Men’s Epee Championships and Darryl Hazlewood took silver [pictured above]. This was an excellent result [link below] for both the individuals and the club. There were 23 entrants in the Men’s Epee competition altogether. Malcolm finished 7th and Joshua Myers was 9th. Sylvia Brown came 9th in the Women’s Epee and took bronze in the Women’s Sabre. For Owen this completes a hat-trick of victories in East Midlands Competitions this year. It should be noted that he is also only 14 and this was the Men’s Senior Championships. He competed against much older and more experienced fencers!

British Youth Championships

Great weekend for Frisby’s young fencers at the British Youth Championships Finals in Sheffield. Owen came 3rd in the under 16s. Matt was 5th and Josh 10th in the under 18s. Owen’s result was the highest for any East Midland’s fencer in any age group or weapon class. Owen lost to the eventual winner Oliver Steed. To say we are proud is an understatement.

Congratulations Chris, recently departed Frisby for the West Midlands, has just announced he is engaged. Best wishes to you both from all at the club.
Ever thought of a fencing themed wedding? You can have a guard of honor with our blades held high in salute as you walk down the aisle? Or You could both wear white.

Comments Sections Removed

I need to apologise to anyone who may have come to the site recently and seen a glut of inappropriate comments posted on some of the static pages.

The main reason this occurs is that a site will abuse comments fields to post links to their own websites. This has the effect of improving the referential links to those sites when search engines like Google run their ranking algorithms.

In order to rectify this issue I have removed the comments function from the static pages and have purged the database of all commets.
