That’s two home victories for the club but now we have to attempt to some away victories.

We had a great day at the British Youth Championships yesterday. This is the National Finals where fencers who have qualified in their Regional heat compete against each other. It is the most important youth competition in the country. Owen [Above] won Bronze in the Boys’ Under 14 Epee and Matt [Below] won Bronze in the Boys’ Under 16 Epee – a fantastic result!

There were 49 entrants in the Under 14′s and 45 in the Under 16′s. In the Under 16′s Joshua Myers came 22nd and Felix Swinbank came 28th. All fenced brilliantly and we are very proud of their achievements.

LRFU Epee League

On Monday 19th March Frisby Fencers welcomed Leicester University to the club to take part in the first League match in the LRFU Epee League. Darryl, Nigel, Matt and Simon fenced brilliantly in a match that was close and tense at first. They boys grew in confidence as a team and went on to win quite comfortably with a 45-30 scoreline. Well done boys. Frisby has three other matches to compete in:
  • Thursday March 29th (Away) University of Leicester
  • Monday April 2nd (Home) Hinckley
  • Tuesday April 17th (Away) Hinckley.

Good start to the Season!

On Sunday 4th March Frisby Fencers Owen Jordan, Felix Swinbank, (pictured) Darryl Hazlewood, Matt Bolton and Josh Myers competed in the Nottingham Open Senior Men’s Epee tournament held at the Harvey Hadden Stadium in Nottingham.

The event attracted 65 fencers from all over the UK, and even from abroad. All our fencers did very well and this was Owen and Josh’s first Senior competition. The final positions were Owen 20th, Felix 22nd, Darryl 30th, Matt 35th and Josh 54th. A fine performance from members of the club.

On the previous weekend Owen Jordan fenced in the Leon Paul Junior Series Epee at Ashton near Manchester. Owen represented Frisby Fencers in the Under 15 section. This year Owen has had to move up to the older category and he found it difficult at first to fence the older boys. After settling down he began to find his usual form and went on to win the competition. Well done to Owen.
